Donation to Birthright of Sidney


SIDNEY - Birthright of Sidney is one of the many local organizations that receives support from the United Way of Sidney. A donation was made to the organization at United Way of Sidney's annual meeting.

Birthright of Sidney provides emergency services for women and young girls with unexpected pregnancies. Birthright offers positive support through confidential pregnancy test and guidance. They supply maternity, baby clothes and prenatal medical referrals. All their services are confidential and free to their clients. The Birthright Center of Sidney is staffed by trained volunteers who lovingly provide assistance and a positive alternative to abortion. Help is available 24 hours a day by calling 1-800-5504900 or during Birthright of Sidney office hours at 563-4321 or by special appointment.

Birthright of Sidney is a 501C 3 Not for Profit Corporation and they depend on annual fundraisers and donations from generous individuals and businesses in the community, such as the United Way of Sidney. Our Chapter strictly prohibits lobbying or political activity. Birthright of Sidney receives no funding from the government.

A DONATION IS PRESENTED to Ellen Lockhart,director of

Since opening their doors in 2003, Birthright of Sidney has been involved in the birth of 207 babies. In 2010 they helped over 300 clients, had 21 births and to date are expecting 21 more babies due this year. Birthright of Sidney also played an important role during the flood of 2006; they provided baby food, diapers, and clothing to the families that were living in the shelter at the school and were in need of these types of goods.

Ellen Lockhart expressed her appreciation for the continued support of the United Way of Sidney. Donations received from The United Way of Sidney has helped to provide each newborn baby with a layette consisting of new items such as: receiving blankets, quilts, sleepers, undershirts, a few outfits, snowsuits (if needed), hats, sweater sets, wash cloths, baby wipes, diapers, bibs, socks, baby shampoo, powder, baby wash baby bottles and toys. Daily Birthright of Sidney distribute diapers, wipes, food, formulas, new and gently used clothing up to size 2T to their clients. All items are supplied for two to three years to help their moms, sometimes dads and babies get established. Birthright also purchases Precious Feet Pregnancy Tests, maternity clothes and a variety of pamphlets, which they distribute to clients.

Birthright of Sidney Projection for 2011 is to continue their mission of helping moms and reach out to find more women who need this type of service. This year Birthright of Sidney house, located at 40 East Main Street, Sidney will be freshened up and receive some repairs and hopefully a new computer.

Birthright's motto is "it is the right of every pregnant woman to give birth, and the right of every child to be born."
