Our History

The United Way of Sidney was founded in 1951 as the Sidney Community Chest. We have provided consistent support to the tri-town area since our inception, with early donations helping to build an isolation ward at the hospital and supporting DVHS since it’s founding in 1965.

Our title changed to the United Way of Sidney in 1975, allowing us to receive support and resources from the state and global United Way organizations to deepen our local impact.

During the 1990’s, generous community donations enabled the United Way of Sidney to establish a contingency fund for rapid response to disasters such as the flood of 2006.

Today, the United Way of Sidney continues to focus on the same areas - hunger, youth development, emergency services, literacy & education, and quality of life - that we have always held dear. We proudly provided over $90,000 in the 2024-25 budget year to non-profits serving these focus areas within Sidney, Sidney Center, and Masonville.

We are grateful for the dedicated donors, volunteers, and partners who make our work in this community possible.
